Festival Marketing Calendar for Small Businesses in Tamil Nadu

In Tamil Nadu, the calendar drives sales more than any ad budget. Pongal, Tamil New Year, Aadi, Navaratri and Diwali each bring a spike in demand, and customers start searching weeks before the festival, not on the day. Businesses that prepare early collect that demand. The rest watch it go to competitors.
Festival dates change every year, so check a current Tamil calendar for exact dates. The months below are a guide.
The main festival moments
| When | Moment | Typical demand |
|---|---|---|
| January | Pongal | Clothing, home goods, gifts, groceries |
| April | Tamil New Year | Gold, new purchases, gifts |
| April to May | Akshaya Tritiya | Gold and jewellery |
| July to August | Aadi month | Discounts, clothing, home goods; weddings usually slow |
| August to September | Vinayagar Chathurthi | Decorations, sweets, pooja items |
| September to October | Navaratri and Ayudha Pooja | Pooja items, vehicles, tools, gifts |
| October to November | Diwali | Almost every category: clothes, sweets, gold, electronics |
| November to December | Karthigai Deepam | Lamps, decorations, pooja items |
Also plan around the wedding season, school reopening and exam periods, which matter a great deal for stationery, tuition, uniforms and food.
The four-week rule
For each festival, plan backwards from the date:
4 weeks before: prepare. Check stock, plan offers, update your Google Business Profile hours, and photograph products.
3 weeks before: announce. Post the offer, start your WhatsApp broadcast to customers who opted in, and begin ads if you use them.
2 weeks before: push. Highest search and buying intent. Increase visibility, post daily and reply to every enquiry quickly.
Final week: reassure. Show stock availability, delivery cut-off dates and shop hours. Make buying easy.
After the festival: thank customers, ask for reviews and note what sold.
What to do for each channel
Google Business Profile. Update special hours, add offer posts, and add festival photos.
Instagram and Facebook. Show products in use, countdown Stories and customer photos. See our 30-day social media plan.
WhatsApp. Send a short offer message to customers who agreed to hear from you, with a catalogue link.
Google Ads. Raise budgets a few weeks early for searches such as “Diwali gifts in [town],” and pause when stock runs out.
Your website. Add a festival banner and make sure the offer page loads quickly on mobile.
Make offers that are honest
- Show the real original price and the real discount.
- State the end date and any conditions clearly.
- Do not advertise stock you do not have.
Jewellery and gold
Akshaya Tritiya and wedding season matter most. Our Instagram Reels guide for jewellery shops and jewellery marketing strategy go deeper.
Build your own calendar
Open a spreadsheet, list the 8 to 10 moments that matter to your business, and write the four steps against each. Do this once a year and you will never be caught late.
